Metal cutting fluid can be divided into: pure oil, emulsification, Semi Synthetic, total synthesis.

Pure oil cutting fluid is generally used for high precision processing or heavy load processing. (finishing grinding, honing,depth drill, drawing)

                                         

Emulsification cutting fluid is emulsified oil and soluble oil which oil content is above 40% and soluble can be diluted by 5%. The working fluid of this product appears to be ivory-white and oil particle. Compared to the pure oil cutting fluid, this product has better cooling performance with no oil mist but ensure to maintain the fresh Emulsification cutting fluid in a timely manner.

Semi Synthetic cutting fluid has less oil content than emulsification cutting fluid.

                                                

1.Function of Metal processing fluid

Lubricating Function

Cutting fluid helps to cause less friction between front side of tool face and swarf, rear side of tool face and work piece surface. The forming lubricating film could reduce friction, power consumption, heat between tool and work piece and damage of tool and improve the cutting processing property of work piece. In the process of grinding, the grinding fluid forms lubricating film which could reduce friction and heat so that improve the service life of grindstone and quality of work piece surface.

                                           

 

Cooling performance

Convection and vaporization among cutting fluid, tool, swarf and work piece take heat away from tool and work piece so that cool down the temperature and avoid transformation of work piece and tool, maintain the hardness of tool, improve processing precision and the service life of tool and finally achieve cooling performance. The cooling performance of cutting fluid is related to its thermal conductivity, specific heat, heat of vaporization and viscosity. Water’s thermal conductivity and specific heat is higher than oil’s. So water’s cooling performance is better than oil’s.

 

Cleaning performance

It is required good cleaning performance of cutting fluid in metal processing. Cutting fluid has cleaning performance which could maintain sharp of cutting edge without influencing the performance of cutting. As to the oil based cutting oil, the lower viscosity, the stronger cleaning performance it has, especially the cutting oil which contains light component, such as kerosene and diesel, the strong penetrating and cleaning performance it has. Water based cutting fluid which contains surfactant has better cleaning performance and due to its film formed on surface, prevents the particles and greasy filth from work piece, tool and grind wheel; meanwhile, it can penetrate into the surface of the work piece through particle and grease filth and be taken away with cutting fluid, maintain the cleanliness of the cutting fluid.

 

Anti rust performance

Work piece becomes corroding after contacting with corroding media, such as environment media, cutting fluid component decomposing or grease filth caused by oxidative deterioration, also machine tool components surface would. Moreover, it is required to possess rust preventive performance after processing or for temporary storage. Especially in South area of China with the climate property of wet and rainy, people should take more care of anti rust measures for temporary storage.

   

2.Can cutting fluid be applied in glass cutting machine?

Although synthetic cutting fluid with good settle ability and cleaning performance can be applied in glass cutting machine theoretically, it is not recommended to conduct that way due to failure functional anti rust agent and lubricant contained by synthetic cutting fluid.

                                           

 

 

Glass cutting fluid is one kind of product which focuses on cooling performance, penetrability, cleaning performance and fines settle ability.
